IP Address


IP stands for "Internet Protocol". Every machine on the internet has a number assigned to it, called IP address.
  • It's a unique string of numbers separated by full stops that identifies each computer.
  • Without IP address you will not be able to communicate with other devices, users and computers on the internet.
 

There are two versions of IP address which we use
  • Due to the growth on the use of internet there is a concern that the pool of possible addresses would be exhausted. So the next version is developed.

IP addresses are grouped in classes.
  • Determines which of the four octets corresponds to the network ID and which correspond to the host ID.
IP address can be either static or dynamic.
  • Static IP address :
    • The IP address are fixed every time the user connect to the network.
    • It is more suitable for users who are not worried being traced.
    • They know how to secure themselves from the worldwide web.
  • Dynamic IP address :
    • The IP address that changes every time the user connect to the network.
    • It is more suitable for business owners who needs network security.
