DXF file extension for a graphic image format which is mostly used in AutoCAD. DXF stands for Drawing eXchange Format.
- DXF was introduced in December 1982 as a part of AutoCAD 1.0.
- DXF files are standard ASCII text files.
- It is a drawing interchange file and the command provided to read and write these files.
- They can be easily translated to formats of other CAD systems.
General DXF file structure :
- Header section : General information about the drawing is found in this section.
- Table section : This contains the definitions of named items.
- Block section : This contains the block definition that make up each block in the drawing.
- Entities section : The section contains the drawing entities, including any block references.
- End of the file.
