DXF File Format


DXF file extension for a graphic image format which is mostly used in AutoCAD. DXF stands for Drawing eXchange Format.
  • DXF was introduced in December 1982 as a part of AutoCAD 1.0.
  • DXF files are standard ASCII text files.
  • It is a drawing interchange file and the command provided to read and write these files.
  • They can be easily translated to formats of other CAD systems.
General DXF file structure :
  • Header section : General information about the drawing is found in this section.
  • Table section : This contains the definitions of named items.
  • Block section : This contains the block definition that make up each block in the drawing.
  • Entities section : The section contains the drawing entities, including any block references.
  • End of the file.

  • eDrawings viewer.
  • AutoDWG DXF viewer.
